Festive Makeup Trends

With the festive season barrelling towards us faster than the speed of Santa’s sleigh and a Covid Christmas definitely on the snow sprinkled cards, festive makeup trends are set to be a little different this year. Due to the prevalence of mask wearing when out and about, festive party makeup will focus mainly on the eyes while a pared down Christmas Day makeup will still pack a punch with bright lips and naturally glowy skin. Here are the top three trends for the coming festive season.

The Classic Smoky Eye.

The classic smoky eye never goes out of fashion, but this year amp it up to mega watt levels with the addition of festive gold glitter. From a subtle pop of gold in the inner corners of the eyes, to a full on two tone black and gold eye, glitter is your friend this Christmas. A sparkly gold liner adds drama especially when layered as a thin line over a more theatrical black wing.

Rainbow Brights.

To really stand out from the (mask wearing) crowd this season, get your brights out. From pops of pink to peacock hues, rainbow smoky eyes add a touch of frivolity to your festive outfit. If you’re not quite brave enough to go all out neon, a warm pink blended with rose gold gives a softer feel, while a smouldering purple or green eye really turns on the drama. For a subtle take on this look a swipe of coloured liner adds a subtle hint of fun.

The Look of (lip) Love.

With all the mask wearing we have been doing, lips have certainly taken a back seat over the last few months, but on Christmas Day they will be at the forefront of many a makeup. Keep skin natural and glowy with a light tinted moisturiser and a barely there, nude eye with lashings of mascara, then amp up your look with a festive red lipstick. From sheer, tinted balms to full on matte textures, red lipstick takes your look from zero to full on glam in a matter of seconds, leaving more time to crack open the Champagne, start on the festive nibbles and enjoy time with your nearest and dearest.
