Honeymoon Essentials – skincare and makeup

Last month I blogged about the hair and body products that I couldn’t be without in the summer sun. This month I’m taking a look at the facial skincare and makeup products that would make it onto my honeymoon essentials list.

For me, there is one cleanser that is hands down the best one I have tried and is perfect for taking away as, not only does it thoroughly cleanse, remove all traces of makeup and, with the use of the muslin cloth lightly exfoliate, but it also doubles as a very effective eye makeup remover, even when using notoriously difficult to remove products such as waterproof mascara. The Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish is available in varying sizes from a 30ml travel size to a 200ml cabinet size and leaves skin super soft and supple. Each starter kit comes with a muslin cloth for gentle exfoliation.
For a post cleansing skin refresh, try the Liz Earle Skin Tonic Spritzer which smells heavenly – think light, floral tones – and leaves skin revitalised and bright.

For an overnight moisture surge, I have been hugely impressed with the Korres Wild Rose Advanced Repair Sleeping Facial. A cooling and light cream that melts effortlessly into the skin leaving no residue, the sleeping facial repairs, rejuvenates and brightens skin from the first application with its blend of wild rose oil and vitamin C.

For daytime, I am very strict about wearing a moisturiser with SPF50. However, it can be very difficult to find one that doesn’t leave skin looking and feeling oily. Thankfully Clarins have come to the rescue with their UV Plus Anti Pollution Day Screen. Not only does this moisturiser offer SPF50 but it also protects against pollutants so it’s perfect for city and beach breaks alike. Skin is left velvety and shine free so it really is worth the price tag!

For your new husband (eek!) Bulldog offer a One Step at a Time travel tin featuring 30ml sizes of their Original Face Wash, Shave Gel and Moisturiser. Although inexpensive, these paraben free, natural products work wonders for skin and with the funky presentation tin, would make a lovely wedding day gift for your hubby to be.

When it comes to honeymoon makeup, my personal opinion is that less is most definitely more. So I’ve put together a capsule makeup bag that you can mix and match for day and evening.

For the sheerest of coverages, the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream evens out skin tone beautifully and imparts a dewy glow. The formula is long lasting and hydrating and the SPF30 is an added bonus. Make sure you use instead of moisturiser or at least 15 minutes after using moisturiser for the best effect.

For those of you who prefer more of a medium coverage and a more matte finish, the Korres Wild Rose CC Cream may be a perfect match. It promises to even out skin tone and the added Vitamin C combats fine lines and skin discolouration. It also boasts SPF30 for protection whilst out in the sun.

In hot weather, I favour a pre-holiday lash tint so mascara can be left at home and love a simple wash of sheer colour on the eyes. Clinique’s Chubby Sticks are very portable as they are ostensibly a large crayon, and they are exceptionally easy to apply – just smudge onto the eye lids and blend with a finger or brush. My favourites are Bountiful Beige, a shimmering nude and Oversized Orchid, a subtle, glimmering lilac.

Cream is my favourite blush formula for the summer months as it allows you to retain a natural glow through the product. NARS’ Matte Multiple in Laos is a vibrant coral pink shade and looks stunning paired with bronzed skin. Anguilla is a pinker hue and perfect for paler skins. Both can also be used on lips if you fancy a matching pop of colour.

For a barely there hint of colour and high levels of moisturisation, I love the Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors. The Rosewood shade is a gorgeously creamy nude that looks amazing with a tan and my personal favourite, the My Pink shade, reacts with the pH level of your lips creating a bespoke hue just for you!

If you are looking for a lip product with an SPF, the Korres Mandarin Lip Butter sticks offer good UV protection (SPF15) with a hint of colour. There is also a colourless option for those who prefer their natural lip colour. With shea butter, sunflower wax and mandarin oil, these lip butter sticks are intensely nourishing and perfect for popping into your beach bag.

So there we have it – your honeymoon essentials all wrapped up! Now all that’s left is to have a fabulous wedding and then lie back and enjoy the sunshine!
