With winter well on its way, it’s really important to take extra special care of your tresses. Here are my top tips for protecting your hair in the coming cold months.

The most important products to use in winter are those which contain anti-oxidants – vitamins A, C and E. These will protect the hair against environmental and wind damage.
Save with: TRESemmé’s Vitamin C Deep Cleansing shampoo, particularly good if you use a lot of styling product in your hair or it gets particularly oily.
Splash out on: Jason’s Vitamin E with A and C shampoo, which gently cleanses hair without stripping away moisture.

Use a light weight, leave-in conditioner to help maintain moisture level during the winter months.
Save with: Dove’s Nourishing Oil Care Leave-In Spray, a super fine mist that de-frizzes, nourishes and smoothes.
Splash out on: Living Proof’s No Frizz Leave-In Conditioner, a product that locks in smoothness while repelling dirt and oil, meaning you can go longer between washes!

Regular salon treatments are a must – indulge your locks at least every six weeks to give them a fighting chance of surviving winter healthy.
Save with: A home visit and a wet cut that you blow dry yourself or a dry cut, depending on your style.
Splash out on: A deep conditioning treatment and soothing head massage while at the salon.

Gone are the days where masses of strong hold hairspray was used to keep styles perfectly in place. This season it’s all about moveable hair that will survive wind without looking like you’ve gone out in a hurricane.
Save with: John Frieda’s Sheer Blonde Crystal Hold Shape and Shimmer Hairspray, a product that is great for blondes as it doesn’t darken the hair, but is also fab for other hair colours too.
Splash out on: Aveda’s Air Control hairspray, a flexible, lasting hold hair spray for all hair types.

Static can be a big problem in winter. It is made worse by moving from hot to cold and then to hot conditions again, so try to avoid doing this as much as possible. There is also a myriad of products out there that help to prevent static.
Save with: Running a tumble dryer conditioning sheet over your dry locks – this not only stops static but leaves your hair smelling gorgeous too.
Splash out on: Kérastase’s Elixir Ultime Oil, an award winning hair oil that leaves locks feeling silky and weightless.
