As largely bridal makeup artists and hair stylists, we see how trends change year after year. Everything from wispy, undone hair to rose gold eyeshadow go in and out of fashion from one season to the next, and in the same way that certain hairstyles gain huge popularity, so do nail shapes, colours and embellishments. In light of this, we thought we’d give you a little nail inspiration for this month’s blog post. Pinterest boards at the ready!

The French Manicure

Let’s start with a classic, the French manicure. You can’t go wrong with this timeless style, but recently it has been given a refreshing update. For nails that make a statement, incorporate an intricate design on your ring fingernail. Be inspired by your bouquet and go for a floral design or think delicate lace motifs or tiny crystals to echo your dress. If this is a little too bold for you, an elegant alternative is to blend the white tips with the pink base in an ombre style. This is a more subtle look and tones down the colours creating a seamless transition from one hue to the other.

If toned down isn’t your thing, a great addition to your manicure is a pop of glitter. Get sparkly with your ring fingernail totally glitter coated, or just do the tips or bases of your nails in glitter for a look that is low profile but high impact.

Nudes and whites

In recent years the classic French manicure has been overtaken by the trend for nude nails. A colour that can take you from your wedding day to your honeymoon, nude nails are very on trend and are also extremely wearable. With such a huge colour palette available, there really is something for everyone, from a beige nude to match your skin to more of a pink hue to make your manicure pop. All white nails are also becoming extremely fashionable and are a good alternative if you want a uniform colour over the entire nail but still want to make a statement.

With wedding dresses largely being a shade of white, many brides are choosing to pick up the colours in their flowers and bridesmaids’ dresses and popping them onto their nails. Juicy raspberry, watermelon and coral hues are becoming very popular and look fabulous in the summer with a tan. For winter a dark red looks very dramatic paired with porcelain skin and a sultry makeup look.

There are so many options now for nails it is possible to tailor any style to your own taste and make them just as personal as your hair and makeup. And remember your hands will be the subject of many admiring glances and photographs as you show off your ring, so don’t neglect them!
